How long does it take to grind a stump?
A typical residential stump takes anywhere from fifteen minutes to about an hour, depending on its diameter, the wood, and how deep you want to go. A wide hardwood stump takes longer than a small softwood one. If you've got several, plan for a daily rental so you're not rushing between stumps.
How deep does a stump grinder go?
Our grinder takes the stump down below ground level — usually several inches under grade, enough to plant grass over it, lay sod, or put in a garden bed. If you're planning to build or pour over the spot, let us know and we'll talk through how low to take it.
Does it clean up the wood chips, or do I?
Grinding turns the stump into a pile of wood chips and soil that stays on site. Cleanup and hauling are the renter's responsibility, but the chips make good mulch for beds and paths, so many people spread them rather than haul them off. We can talk through it when you pick up.
Will it fit through my gate?
Our self-propelled track grinder is built for access — it drives itself through standard side gates and tight yards that a towable, trailer-mounted grinder can't reach.
